This spectacular large Moon Jar is wheel-thrown using a carefully balanced blend of porcelain and raku clay, created to help withstand the extreme thermal shock of the raku firing process.

The surface is decorated with a copper wash and fired in a raku kiln before undergoing a further sawdust firing process, creating a rich, organic finish with unique patterns and natural variations formed by the interaction of fire, smoke, and materials.

The rim and foot ring are finished with polished terra sigillata, which naturally darkens during the sawdust firing. These areas are then polished again, creating a refined contrast between the smooth, lustrous edges and the expressive surface of the jar’s body.

Each Moon Jar is completely unique, reflecting the unpredictable beauty of traditional raku techniques. A striking statement piece for collectors and lovers of contemporary handmade ceramics.
