This beautiful medium-sized Moon Jar is wheel-thrown using a carefully balanced blend of porcelain and raku clay, designed to help withstand the extreme thermal shock of the raku firing process.

The surface is decorated with a copper wash and fired in a raku kiln before undergoing a further sawdust firing, creating a rich, organic finish with unique markings and variations shaped by the interaction of fire, smoke, and materials.

The rim and foot ring are finished with polished terra sigillata, which naturally darkens during the sawdust firing process. These areas are then polished again, creating a refined contrast between the smooth, lustrous edges and the expressive surface of the jar’s body.

Each Moon Jar is entirely unique, celebrating the beauty and unpredictability of traditional raku techniques. A striking decorative piece that brings together ancient ceramic processes and contemporary craftsmanship.
